Striker's hut for Ring Racers

Dr. Robotnik Ring Racers is finally out, and at least for me, it has been quite a blast to enjoy the single player content and other stuff after getting used to the new physics and mechanics.

...But if you have had your problems with warpping your head around those, or are curious about what other things are offered by the game, then look no further.

Game Features Description
RINGS The main new addition of Ring Racers. Ring-based mechanics explained further in another section.
TRIPWIRES Shortcut gates that require either 150+ speed or specific items active [Sneakers, Invuln, Grow, Top] to bypass. Most shortcuts secured with tripwires can be pretty handy.
POSITION Move around the starting line before the countdown starts, Sonic Riders style. First player to cross the line after GO gets a rainbow boost/miniturbo.
POSITION: FAULT Cross the line or fall off the track before GO appears, and you'll get halted until a few seconds after the race starts.
TUMBLE Certain item interactions send you flying and tumbling back down. You can hold a direction to influence a bit where you can get sent to [I think], but you'll still be mostly helpless until it wears off.
HITLAG If you get hit with an item, you'll hear a punch sound effect with a visible brief pause before getting knocked away. The stronger the impact with an item or player with a powerup, the longer hitlag is.

Gameplay Techniques Description
SPINDASH Hold the spindash button or Accel + Brake + Drift to initiate a spindah and let go. If you don't have any rings, the spindash will charge faster. You can still get a slight boost if you let it go before it reaches GO.
FASTFALL Hold or tap the spindash button mid-air to fall downwards. If you hold the button and touch the floor, you'll bounce a bit.
INSTA-WHIP If you don't have rings and items, you can hold the item button and release for a melee attack- similar to the insta-shield in Sonic 3. Note that you'll start going into negative rings if you keep holiding it after its charged.

Ring Mechanic Description
RING BOOSTING Hold the item button to spend your rings for an acceleration boost. You can use it to increase your speed when drifitng, going through an uphill slope, or if you were knocked into off-road. Your character glows blue when active.
RING DEBT If you run out of rings, you'll have an exclamation mark above you. Ring Debt makes you get hurt if other racers bump you [Ring Sting].
RING OVERFLOW Any ring capsules or pickups that add rings beyond having the max of 20 ringS gives you a Ring Boost as long as the pickup keeps giving you excess rings.
RING STING WITH -20 RINGS If you get hit with -20 rings, you'll tumble and explode, forcing you to respawn.

Item Description
FLAME SHIELD Hold and release the item button to boost. Can skip tripwires if the boost is active regardless of speed. If you hold it down too long, it gets discarded.
BUBBLE SHIELD Once active, you can hold it to expand the bubble and reflect items/attack players on contact. If you hold the item button enough time and are holding Forward/Backward/Neutral, you'll deploythe bubble in different ways. Players that touch the dropped buble will be stuck floating upwards until they hit a ceiling or mash left and right to pop the bubble.
  • Neutral/No Direction: You drop the bubble behind.
  • Forward: Throws the bubble forward. Can bounce briefly until staying stationary.
  • Backward: You drop the bubble behind with a speed boost. Does not skip tripwires speed check.
  • If you fastfall with the shield active, it bounces you forward.
  • Expanding the bubble will hurt any players that touch it.
  • MARBLE GARDEN TOP Summons the top for you to drive. You have to hold and release the drift button for it to brake and start accelerating in the direction you're facing, as it doesn't turn otherwise. Gets released as a projectile after enough time passes or with a second item button press. Can let you cross tripwires even at low speeds, but you'll lose it when crossing it. Still vulnerable to Orbis and Hazards.
LAND MINE Only appears if you are in first place. Lobs a land mine forward or backwards. Causes tumble on contact.
SUPER RING Grants you 20 rings. Ring Overflow still applies if you exceed the max amount of rings with this item.
DROP TARGET Can be thrown forward or dropped backwards. Acts as a bumper that bounces you away with a lot of speed- even if you leave it behind you and drive backwards. Will get moved on contact, and will disappear after getting touched three times- changing colors with the first two.
GACHABOM [Battle/Prison Break only] Throws a rolling bomb that can bounce off walls and returns to you after a few seconds if it hits something. Can be lobbed if you hold forward when using it. You only get this item [1x or 3x] when playing Prison Break stages.
POGO SPRING Summons a spring that grants you a trick jump. The spring left behind will cause tumble to anyone who touches it. Normally doesn't appear in race mode's roulette, but you might find capsules of it in some tracks.
KITCHEN SINK are you sure about that

GP Tips: If you have to finish in a position of 5th or less...then do so. Restarting the map DOES penalise you in score and are less likely to get access to the special stage at the end of the cup. Apparently, finishing the race and having to try again from a low position does NOT, so...yeah. You don't have to do all A-Rank stages either- as long as you play well enough overall.

Unlock time trial: Beat Egg Cup bronze or better, even in Gear 1 [OUTDATED AS OF 2.1].
