Things I like

What kind of games I enjoy in particular depends of the day, but in general, you may catch my attention if you bring up arcade racers, fighting games, fast-paced classic-styled shooters [or as some say, boomer shooters], and even puzzle games. There's probably many specific games I enjoy the most, even outside of my comfort zone, but that will probably have to wait for when I can go into further detail with those picks.

Related to my current game taste and even my beginnings with the internet, I've always had a strong liking for the SEGA made Daytona USA games ever since I saw a deluxe cabinet of the second game at a local mall arcade as a kid- which is what ended up pushing me back then to try figure out how to emulate the game on the humble family PC [even making myself an account on the Supermodel forums named DaytonaFan to ask stuff], tinkering with some older SEGA PC ports [which is where the old RetroBox project came from, if it rings a bell to you] and nowadays I have a fairly decent grasp on how to setup most emulators to play many games that are impossible to obtain legally as of today.

There's probably way more hints of things that I've taken a liking to in the [Things I'm known for] when those also involve games that, obviously, I would have to like to a degree to have been involved with in any way.

Regarding my music tastes, they are also as somewhat spread here and there, but aside from usual expected suspects from classic video games I grew up with [which extends to many SEGA arcade tunes, such as DAYTOOOONAAAA - and even leading me to make a mix of those once], I like rock songs thanks to my brothers, can dig certain rap songs a lot even when I don't usually search for those, have a big soft spot for Eurobeat songs thanks to the Initial D franchise [arcade games and then anime], and genres like DnB and electronic are very well on my ballpark of taste as well.

If you want some artist names that I'd shout out...

  • Scatman John [ever since I was a little boy watching SM64 parodies, but his songs live way beyond those]
  • Takenobu Mitsuyoshi [THE singer and composer for many SEGA classics like Daytona USA, Sega Rally Championship, Burning Rangers, etc]
  • Hideki Naganuma [from Sonic Rush to Jet Set Radio, this guy has a VERY distinct style for his songs and I love 'em]
  • E-Z Rollers [Vonsnake of BallisticNG fame cited it as an inspiration for said game's songs and...yeah now I see why]
  • T-Square and CASIOPEA [if you know those names, you don't need me to tell you why those are awesome]
  • Michael Jackson [do I even need to explain this one?], Hironobu Kageyama [Dragon Ball Z is his biggest highlight, but guy has bangers too outside of DBZ media]
  • Yuzo Koshiro [MAD impressive he has rocked both the chiptune ever since Streets of Rage and transitioned fantastically into electronic with the WMMT games and SOR4]
  • Crush 40 [WHAT I'M MADE OF NOOOOOOOOW and et al]...
  • Linkin Park [I grew up with DBZ AMVs with my brothers and I still like the songs, shush]

  • ...At this point, I'm realizing that I may have to do a page for my music choices - actually think I had planned it once but never went through it due to website theme changes, although closest thing to that was a N64 related playlist that I may have stored somewhere but wasn't anywhere near as complete as I'd wanted to.
